Warm Up:
In Class:

1. Reteach Challenge #4, Question #5 as a class example and go over rubric.
Look at question #5 and highlight the following. If you don't have it, add it!


Highlight city - yellow
Highlight words CLIMATE MAP - GREEN
Highlight words VEGETATION MAP - BLUE
Highlight words POPULATION DENSITY MAP - PURPLE
Highlight words PHYSICAL FEATURE MAP - ORANGE

Add this one to #6
Highlight words ECONOMIC ACTIVITY MAP - PINK
OR you can continue to underline the maps. Just make sure you have them all!!

2. Complete question #6 and grade yourself using the rubric by highlighting 1, 2,3, or 4. Then below the rubric explain why you earned that grade. If you and I disagree on grade we will have a conference. Please read and grade yourself accordingly. If something is wrong with your essay after grading yourself with the rubric-FIX IT!!
Homework:

If you did not finish your assessment in class today. You can either finish at home with no parent help or tools we used in class (i.e. transparency) OR you can schedule a time during lunch, before school or after school to complete. Must be completed by Friday!

How do we answer all parts of the question? How do I use geographic tools (maps) to answer problems?

Finish Challenge 3 (all in your notebook) Due today in class! Use Pages 558-563. (Click for link to maps)
1. Read question on the task card.
2. Circle the question marks.
3. Write numbers on the side depending on how many question marks.
4. Circle the word(s) that help you determine which map you will use.
5. Under the task card write which map(s) will help you. (political-boundaries/countries/states/cities, physical, climate=weather over time, vegetation=plant life, population density = how crowded in an area, or economic activity=land use and resources) and highlight the name of the map. You can can leave of US and Canada!
6. Underline word(s) to help answer or direct you to the answer (example how many cities, or one state)
7. Use the transparency and expo marker to help you figure where the question is asking you.
8. Answer the question(s) in complete sentences.
9. Raise your hand and I will come over to check.
10. #7 and #9 if answered correctly along with all the others in complete sentences can earn this a 4.
11. Two things I am looking for: correct map and correct answer in complete sentences!!

Challenge 3 (complete in notebook) We cut out each card on put two on a page.
1. Read question on the task card.
2. Circle the question marks.

Create a regions map of the USA:


1. Get a blank USA map from the front table


2. Divide the USA into regions based on common characteristics that are interesting to you (sports teams, foods, places you've visited, etc) OR find regions that already exist and divide the USA into those. You can use Google Search to find a map you would like to use also! (Search words: United States, thematic maps, regional thematic maps, fun thematic maps of the U.S.)
3.  Create a key, if appropriate
4.  Give your map a title.
5. Draw those regions on your map. Then use color if appropriate.
6. On the back of the map, explain the following about your map:

In complete sentences, explain what your map's theme is and how your map shows regions of the USA. If you forgot what a region is of the 5 themes, look it up!  Use evidence from your map in your answer. See rubric

1. Turn in Reading Notes 2

2. Challenge 3
a. Write question #9 and #10 in your notebook before you cut out the rest of them.
     b. Cut out questions 1-6 and glue them into your notebook leaving room to write and underline!
     c. We will go through the questions and underline/highlight important words that will help you answer the question. Answer the question in your notebook. This is a rough draft make sure you spell all parts correctly, have capitals and correct punctuation.
     d. The answer sheet will be for your final answers only!! Double check what you have written.
This is due before the end of the hour.
Homework:

1. Sign up to retake the test next week outside Bishop's room. The last day to retake is Thursday before school 7:50-8:20 or after school 3:45-4:20.  You must have attended a study session in order to retake the test and bring your corrected test with you before you can retake!
