Warm Up:


1. DOG

Objective: I will be successful when....

  • define and explain the importance of these key geographic terms: ecosystem, food chain, food web, freshwater, watershed
  • evaluate the environmental health and management of the Great Lakes freshwater ecosystem.
  • examine the environmental challenges facing global freshwater ecosystems and the impending crisis in freshwater supplies.
In Class:

Debate day!

Rule 1:  Students must raise their hands if they wish to speak. They may speak only when called on by the teacher.

Rule 2:  Students may present only one piece of evidence each time they are called on.

Rule 3:  Your team will receive 1 point for each sold and relevant piece of evidence you present.  Your teacher will decide if the evidence deserves a point.  Your team will lose 1 point fro arguing with the teacher or for repeating evidence, including saying it in a different way. Listen carefully!

Rule 4:  Your team will receive 10 bonus points if every student on the team presents at least once.

Rule 5:  Student may pass notes with evidence written on them to others on their team.

Rule 6:  You must write down at least TWO compelling comments or pieces of evidence from the REBUTTAL side or the opposite side what you are arguing. This will go in as a "listening/participation" grade.

Rule 7:  Teams may call two 3-minute breaks to gather additional information, share information, or talk about strategy.  The team captain decides when to call them.
